Feature Release: Virtual Network Documentation

BY IT GLUE | September 29, 2020

Things are shifting to a virtual world at a quickening pace, and IT is no exception. The virtualization of multiple switches and servers on a single physical machine is now commonplace—and therefore, so is the need to document these virtual environments.

With this feature release, Network Glue now has the ability to automatically discover, document and diagram virtual components of networks for Hyper-V and VMware. Technicians can quickly identify which devices serve as virtual machine hosts, and can have confidence that they have complete visibility over an IT environment; be it physical or virtual.

As a result, pinpointing performance issues with servers that host virtual machines can be confirmed in seconds. This information is also useful when optimizing IT environments, in particular, when evaluating whether to offload server capacity when too many virtual machines are hosted on a given server. To plan for the future, you need to know where you stand, and this new feature makes the current state of an environment crystal clear.

Of course, all of this information will be fully integrated into other documentation in IT Glue, and will be displayed in the network diagram(s) as well.

To have your Network Glue Collector identify your virtual assets, refer to our Setting up Network Glue for an IT Glue organization KB article. To learn more about how the virtual documentation is displayed in your network diagram, check out our Guide to the Network Glue network diagram KB article. For further details on how your virtual documentation can be matched and enrich your IT Glue configurations, please see our Guide to Network Glue device matching and Enriching IT Glue Configurations with Network Glue data KB articles.

If you haven’t experienced the accuracy and convenience that Network Glue brings to the management of IT environments, there’s no better time to experience it first hand. You gain complete and comprehensive visibility into networks, and with automatic syncing, you can be sure the information you’re looking at is accurate. It’s proven to be an invaluable tool for strategic network planning, quarterly business reviews, troubleshooting, and onboarding new clients. Get a demo of Network Glue today!
